X-Box Takes a Cautious Approach Towards Blockchain Gaming

As blockchain gaming becomes more prevalent in the entertainment industry, there is a growing trend for gaming companies to declare their stance on the matter. Valve famously revealed their intentions via the small print in their terms and conditions. While Epic, Ubisoft, EA, Take Two and Square Enix are excited by its potential. Now, Microsoft-owned gaming brand, X-Box have had their say.

Speaking recently, X-Box Head, Phil Spencer, revealed a more cautious approach with regards to blockchain gaming. Indicating that despite showing promise in some areas, he still sees the technology as more exploitative than innovative.

“What I’d say today on NFT, all up, is I think there’s a lot of speculation and experimentation that’s happening, and that some of the creative that I see today feels more exploitive than about entertainment,” he stated.

A statement, that in all fairness could describe one or two titles on the X-Box roster. Despite all this, he has not out-and-out dismissed the technology. Only stating that he doesn’t see anything like that arriving on the X-Box anytime soon. However, it seems a little odd that there are no precautions the head of the company can make to protect its users from the aforementioned exploitation.

Nonetheless, what it all boils down to is money, and how and where it can be made, and what these gaming platforms intend to do once the big-name developers release their first blockchain-based titles.
