Topps to Unveil Brand New MLB Inception NFTs

Long standing purveyors of sport-themed trading cards, Topps, are about to launch a new collection into the world. As such, the “Inception” series will feature some of baseball’s most promising rising stars.

The cards themselves will include motion animations from exceptional baseball plays, facsimile signatures and relic content. In addition, the main theme of the collection is emerging talent within the game. So, the best rookie players will adorn the NFTs providing collectors an opportunity to own cards prior to the players meteoric rise to superstardom.

Having moved away from the Wax blockchain, Inception is the first baseball collection since migrating to the Avalanche network. According Topps execs, the new platform offers faster processing times, a more user-friendly interface and eco-friendly transactions. Furthermore, the Avalanche system negates the need for specialized wallets and payment tokens.

According to sources, MLB will end their 74-year relationship with Topps in 2025. This then, could add an additional layer of scarcity to the Topps baseball collections. Topps however, are nurturing relationships with the potentially more lucrative football (soccer) and Formula 1 industries to make up for this shortfall. For example, Topps recently penned an exclusive deal with the German Bundesliga to produce a range of football-themed trading card NFTs.
