Snoop Dogg has been stirring the NFT pot with full power this past week, from his grand entry into The Sandbox to his questionable revelation that he is Cozomo de’ Medici, an avid NFT collector in the space. Just yesterday, he made it into the news again with his latest splurge on a piece of NFT art by prominent CryptoArtist XCOPY.
Snoop spent a grand total of 1,300 ETH (approx. $4 million) on XCOPY’s animated piece called “Some Asshole.” The NFT artwork was purchased from the SuperRare marketplace and the sale was announced via Snoop’s supposed NFT persona, Cozomo de’ Medici’s Twitter account. XCOPY will also receive a generous 10% thanks for SuperRare’s royalty program. Although already an influential artistic figure in the space, Snoop’s investment will certainly propel XCOPY’s value and career even further.
“Some Asshole” is not just any NFT, it was the seventh NFT minted on SuperRare and the first character XCOPY released as an NFT. The artwork was previously sold for a cool 100 ETH earlier this year in March, and before that for 25 ETH in September 2020. Cozomo’s wallet also holds a number of CryptoPunks, Art Blocks NFTs, Meebits, and other valuable NFT artworks, all worth around $18 million in ETH.
We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on everyone’s favorite consummate toker and his chronicles in the NFT metaverse.
