Playboy magazine and artist Shantell Martin are releasing three NFTs dubbed “Bowie 1976.” The collection is inspired by the September 1976 Playboy interview featuring David Bowie.
Bowie 1976 explores three classic themes that speak deeply to the Bowie ethos: Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll. For the creative process, Shantell reimagined the 1976 interview with the quirky 29-year-old Bowie, and formed a digital representation of text, imagery, and her signature hand-drawn line work.
To connect the past and present even more, Shantell and Playboy reached out to award-winning London-based content design team Observatory to produce the animation and AR experience to accompany the NFTs. To see the Augmented Reality NFTs, viewers have to first download Adobe Aero AR App.
Shantell Martin is a groundbreaking multimedia artist. She explores themes such as intersectionality, identity, and play, and is also a cultural facilitator, forging new connections between fine art, education, design, philosophy, and technology.
Bowie 1976 is part of Playboy’s Nifty Pride NFT collection featuring five pairs of some of the world’s biggest visual and musical artists in celebration of the LGBTQ community. Nifty Pride launches on June 29th at 6:30 PM ET on Nifty Gateway and includes collaborations by Troye Sivan and Jason Ebeyer, Charli XCX and Serwah, The Knocks and Moist Breezy, and Playboy and Shantell Martin.
