The media conglomerate is home to a number of intellectual properties that would fit in seamlessly within the NFT ethos. ViacomCBS sees the digital media as a method to engage with fans. For now, they will work on a mechanism for them to purchase, trade and collect assets. And consequently, see it as an extension of their current multimedia offerings.
A huge number of licensable materials exist throughout their catalogue of properties. Including those from Nickelodeon, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Paramount and Showtime, with a great deal of entertainment vehicles ripe for the NFT genre. None more bankable than sir Spongebob Squarepants, the legendary deep sea “clown.”
According to reports, the ball is now rolling, and the new line of digital collectibles will begin to arrive in Spring 2022. Speaking at a recent press release, ViacomCBS’s president of consumer products, Pam Kaufman stated:
“Fuelled by beloved characters and iconic properties with multigenerational appeal, we are thrilled to accelerate our consumer products presence even further into the growing metaverse.”
Partner company, Recur, have also made waves in recent weeks. Back in September, they raised a massive $50 million in Series A funding. A fine sum which will bankroll their future non-fungible endeavours.
