The collection is curated by “The Source” magazine co-founder Ed Young. He sees NFTs as a way to reconnect with hip-hop and rap’s peer-to-peer origins.
100 of the genre’s greatest artists have been immortalized on the Near blockchain. In what’s dubbed as “A love letter to Hip-Hop,” the collection features depictions of legendary rappers such as Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg painted by industry illustrator André LeRoy Davis.
Each work is composed of 47 editions, 1 for each year of the hip-hop era. The first edition of each NFT is being donated to the UHHM and editions #38 – #47 to the rappers themselves. The remaining 36 editions will join the auction throughout its run.
The marketplace went live on Juneteenth, the federal holiday marking the end of slavery. The auction runs for 36 days, and will end on July 24. Furthermore, all bids are placed using the $NEAR token, which can be purchased on most major crypto exchanges.
Head over to the NFT hip-hop web page, soak up some nostalgia, and check out the collection for yourselves.
