The world-famous Italian luxury fashion brand, Gucci, is the first fashion house to release its very own NFT. The NFT is being sold through Christie’s, which has already auctioned off a number of iconic celebrity images in the past one month, as well as popular NFT projects like CryptoPunks.
The sale, titled PROOF OF SOVEREIGNTY: A Curated NFT Sale by Lady PheOnix, features a fashion film NFT inspired by Gucci’s recent Aria collection. The film is co-directed by the brand’s Creative Director Alessandro Michele, and award-winning photographer and director Floria Sigismondi, and it also includes Michele’s recent runway presentation in a four-minute video clip.
Christie’s describes the NFT as a creation with a “dream-like landscape and effervescent energy, marking a historic moment for the storied brand, as it bridges into a new media space.” It also represents “Aria’s overarching message—that of a universal desire for renewal; a yearning to bloom and flourish after the shadow of winter has passed. Doors open as darkness yields to light and that long-awaited feast of air.”
However, despite Gucci’s popularity, nobody is bidding yet and the price remains the same as the opening bid of $20,000. Are the crypto whale collectors done with buying flashy NFTs? The auction ends on June 3rd, and perhaps the last minutes of the auction will be more promising.
