Welcome to CryptoArt Sundays! This week I have a super surreal artist lined up for you all. Known as 0euvre AI, they have been absolutely killing it with their incredible NFT artworks.
0euvre AI recently launched an NFT collection of 499 generated AI 1/1 pieces on Solana, which all sold out. Although the artist is called 0euvre AI on Twitter (find out more about this in the interview), they are actually known as Uromancy. Based on the east coast of the USA, Uromancy has been creating art for over a decade using oil/acrylic on canvas.
Now let’s dive in and find out more about their latest project, the NFT space as a whole, and what inspires them to create these mind-blowing artworks!
How did you find out about the NFT space, and what attracted you to create your own NFTs?
I first heard about the NFT space with the rise of CryptoKitties. I thought it was wild that jpegs could become so valued, then continued on for many years without interacting. I didn’t start buying NFTs until this year in 2021, and when I did that, I found interest in a few projects that were made using AI.
I was familiar with “Deep Dream” and “Style Transfer” Neural Networks already, but once I found art made with VQGan and Clip, that was a gamechanger for me. I started gathering every resource I could find and started testing it out myself. I was a moderator for an AI project that “rugged” by stating that their project was only “curating” art using AI, not creating art using AI, which is what everyone understood the project to be.
We found proof that the images were just taken from other artists, and they were not copyright free. I made it clear to people that I had no idea this was the case, and joined a separate Discord with many of the people that had joined the aforementioned project. There, I shared some of the art I had been working on, was encouraged by others, and we formed a team to create a new project with the art I was working on called 0euvre AI. So out of a disappointing situation, I was able to use that as an impetus to create something exciting!
How often do you create?
During normal life, I would say a few times a month, but for this project I have made it a full-time job for over a month (on top of having a full-time day job). I’ve been on the PC creating these 8 hours a day, everyday, no days off.
What is your creative process?
For this particular project since we’re using an AI that builds art based off of text prompts, I have gathered famous quotes, mythological stories, and tried to describe scenarios that I can picture in my head, so that the AI can interpret that and paint a picture. Not everything can be a winner, and because I want to provide value to this project, I’ve made sure to curate the results and discard those that I don’t think work well enough.
Are there any CryptoArtists you would love to collaborate with?
I really like the AI work that ContrastiveNFT and CosmicCrypto have done!
What do you think the future of CryptoArt will look like?
I think there’s a long way to go, but once the scene leans less towards PFPs, I think we will see a lot of innovation.
What are you currently working on?
At the moment I’m working on making custom NFTs for those who bought in during the presale for the 0euvre AI collection. I intend to create this collection based on user input, so that these owners of the 0euvre AI collection can let me know what they would like to see, and I can try to make that for them using the AI. I also have plans for future projects, including AI Art Gifs, which require a lot of GPU power to create, as seen here.
Where can collectors find your work?
