In the battle for auction house supremacy, Christie’s have thrown a wild haymaker into the mix. In a watershed moment for the traditional auction platform, bids for their next NFT sale will run in Ether. Previously, auction houses have supported ETH payments however, this is the first time live bidding will be made in a digital currency.
Heading your way in the near future, Christie’s will host an auction of the famed Art Blocks, but this time round collectors no longer need to thumb through archaic, unwieldy fiat currency to make their bids. Embracing the future, Christie’s have introduced a mechanism to use state of the art crypto in their bidding wars.
Christie’s has embraced the NFT movement with great gusto, and have already introduced an NFT dedicated subsection to their platform. Titled “Christie’s Encrypted,” it is now the one-stop hub for digital artworks on the site.
The Art Blocks sale, titled “Art Blocks Curated: Sets 1-3,” will commence on October 1, as part of the wider “Post war to Present” auction in New York.
