The beautiful Beibei City is now live in Decentraland! The team from Metaverse Labs, a China-based group of creators, recently partnered up with the top art university in China, China Academy of Arts, to create a virtual exhibition of the Beibei urban landscape during the 1940s. So if you want to experience the beauty of China 80 years ago, click here and take a tour through the beautiful landscapes and buildings.
The project started in 2020, when the exhibition team conducted related research on the first city in China’s modern urban planning, Beibei (now Beibei District, Chongqing). The city is a landmark in the history of Chinese urban planning, such as the Education Center, Western Research Center, Library, and North Hot Spring Park.
During the 1930s and 1940s, Beibei was the rear area in the War of Resistance Against Japan, and it was where iconic figures of Chinese township construction including Liang Shuming, Tao Xingzhi, Yan Yangchu and others placed the township construction experimental school.
By recreating Beibei in Decentraland, the exhibition plays on the idea of a “future historical community,” where through a decentralized network stories of the past can be told by the present to the future.
The physical exhibition, “Village Construction Chinese Thought Exhibition,” led by the curator Professor Huang Sunquan, is being held at Gaofan Photography and Art Museum in Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou from April 9th to May 7th, 2021.
