Fans of the legendary baseball phenomenon Babe Ruth can now own a part of the emotion-evoking NFT collection “Skrapper Legends.” World-renowned artist William Quigley has teamed up with Seth Lamburn, aka SkrapperPunk, for the release of the limited NFT collection on WAX, consisting of 714 NFT packs. The series interpret the famed 1948 Pulitzer Prize-winning photo “The Babe Bows Out” through the lens of contemporary art.
The artwork is a recreation inspired by a larger painting called “Baseball,” commissioned in 1998 by LA-based sports memorabilia dealer Dave Levin of GFG. Levin and Quigley partnered up to remaster the work and adapt it to trading cards.
Each pack costs $100 and comes with one NFT collectible. Collectors have the opportunity to receive one of three bold, animated renditions of the original photo. There are 651 Common cards, 60 Epic cards, and 3 Legendary cards in total. All collectors are guaranteed equal odds of receiving a low mint, regardless of time opened. The drop takes place on June 22nd at 1PM EST.
Quigley is well-known for his unique ability to bring historic figures to life. He sold out his first show in 1985, where he exhibited next to icons such as Andy Warhol. Quigley has also displayed his work in some of the most prestigious galleries around the world – including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Art Basel, the Miro Foundation, MOCA LA, Manny Silverman Gallery, Karl Hutter Fine Art, Keyes Gallery, AB NY Gallery, and Art Chicago.
